What voters need to know

Alabama law sets voting from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and says polling places in areas that operate on Eastern time open and close on Eastern time, though the Chambers and Lee county commissions may keep any polling place on Central time (Ala. Code 17-9-6); the Secretary of State's 2026 Voter Guide says only that such polling places 'may' be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern. The AP reported that these border areas closed at 7 p.m. Central (8 p.m. ET) in 2024, so voters there should check with their county. Anyone who tries to join the voting line after 7:00 p.m. will not be allowed to vote. Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received by noon on Election Day, Nov. 3 (hand delivery by close of business Nov. 2): a receipt deadline, not a postmark rule (Ala. Code 17-11-18).

Hours can vary locally in Alabama. Check with your county or town election office before you go.
