The rule
USPS observes the 11 federal holidays: all Post Office locations are closed and there is no regular mail delivery; retail and regular delivery resume the following delivery day (USPS 2026 holiday list and its 2026 holiday releases). Priority Mail Express: 'Sunday and holiday delivery available in many major markets for an additional fee.' Saturday holiday: USPS closes on the Saturday itself, and Post Offices are open with normal delivery the Friday before (2026 list: 'Post Offices will be open on Friday, July 3, and deliveries will occur as normal'; same handling in 2021 when Christmas and New Year's Day fell on Saturdays). Sunday holiday: Post Offices closed and no regular delivery the following Monday (2022 release for Sunday Christmas/New Year's). Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are not postal holidays: in 2021 and 2022 USPS said some Post Offices may have limited hours on Christmas Eve, collection boxes with a final pickup after noon may be collected early that day, and it had no plans for limited hours on New Year's Eve. Good Friday, Easter, Black Friday and Halloween are not postal holidays. As of 2026-10-07 USPS had posted its 2026 holiday list but not its 2027 list.
