When do polls close in Montana?

Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (MCA 13-1-106), except that a polling place with fewer than 400 registered voters (not counting absentee voters) may open as late as noon; every polling place on the Secretary of State's 2026 general-election list closes at 8:00 p.m. A Secretary of State directive (No. 04-08, last updated in 2016) says anyone in line at 8:00 p.m. must be allowed to vote. Absentee ballots must be received by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day (MCA 13-13-201); this is a receipt deadline, not a postmark deadline.
