When do polls close in California?

Polls in California close at 8:00 PM PST (11:00 PM ET) on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

What voters need to know

California mails a ballot to every active registered voter. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 3, and 8 p.m. is the deadline both to vote in person and to return a ballot to a drop box, polling place, vote center or county elections office; voters still in line when the polls close have the right to vote. Ballots sent by mail count if they are postmarked on or before Nov. 3 and received by the county no later than 7 days after Election Day (Nov. 10).
