What voters need to know
Alaska law sets polling hours of 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time, so polls in the far western Aleutians, which are on Hawaii-Aleutian time, close an hour after the rest of the state. Every qualified voter present and in line when the polls close may vote. Absentee ballots returned by mail must be mailed by Election Day (postmarked on or before Nov. 3 if they carry a postmark) and received by close of business on the 10th day after the election (Nov. 13); ballots mailed from outside the U.S. or by qualifying overseas voters have until the 15th day (Nov. 18).
