Good to know
Social Security field offices close on the 11 federal holidays, and on those days the national 800 number has no live agents, though its automated services keep working. ssa.gov refused automated fetches, so SSA's own holiday notice couldn't be read: dates come from OPM's 2026 and 2027 federal holiday schedules, and the office-closure rule from AARP's summary. The day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve are ordinary business days unless the President orders federal agencies closed, as happened on Dec. 24 and 26, 2025; that order let agency heads keep some offices open, so check SSA's notice if one is issued.
From the federal holiday schedule, checked October 7, 2026. "Expected" days follow its past practice until it announces them. Office hours · All holiday hours
