The rule

Federal offices close on the 11 holidays set by 5 U.S.C. 6103: New Year's Day, Birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. For most employees (Monday-Friday schedules) a Saturday holiday is observed the preceding Friday and a Sunday holiday the following Monday (OPM 'in lieu of' rule). Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, the day after Thanksgiving, Good Friday and Easter are not federal holidays, but the President can close executive agencies by executive order – EO 14371 (Dec. 18, 2025) closed them on Dec. 24 and Dec. 26, 2025. No such order covering Dec. 24, 2026 had been issued as of 2026-10-07.

From OPM's published schedules, checked October 7, 2026. "Expected" days follow its past practice until it announces them. · All holiday hours
