Good to know
NCDMV publishes a yearly holiday schedule for driver license offices and license plate agencies that matches North Carolina's state holiday schedule, and the state's 2027 schedule is already out. North Carolina's list differs from the federal one: Good Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and three days at Christmas (Dec. 24, 25 and 28 in 2026) are holidays, while Presidents' Day, Juneteenth and Columbus Day are not, and NCDMV says it doesn't observe federal holidays that aren't on the state schedule. Most driver license offices are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and take walk-ins all day, though hours vary by location. NCDMV suggests checking whether your service can be done online before you go.
