Good to know
Some New York DMV offices are run by the state and the rest by county clerks, who set their own holiday calendars. The DMV doesn't post one statewide holiday list; it says holiday hours appear on each local office's page, so these days follow the state's calendar of holidays for state employees (2026 and 2027 are both published). Lincoln's Birthday (Feb. 12) and, in 2026, Election Day are designated floating holidays for state employees in certain bargaining units, which generally means state offices stay open on those days. Columbus Day is a New York State holiday. The DMV's phone contact center is closed on state holidays, and online transactions at the DMV's website stay available.
From the New York DMV's holiday list or its state's holiday schedule, checked October 7, 2026. "Expected" days follow its past practice until it announces them. Office hours · All holiday hours
